IMPORTANT NOTICE |
Deadline for those who hold title or equity interest in property at the time of foreclosure, may file to claim excess sale proceeds using Form 5743 (PDF), Notice of Intention to Claim Interest in Foreclosures Sales Proceeds. This form must be completed and filed with the Berrien County Treasurer by July 1 immediately following the effective date of foreclosure. The Notice of Intention must be delivered by certified mail, return receipted requested, or by personal service. Completing and returning this form is an intent to make future claim, but is not itself a claim for proceeds. |

The County Treasurer is an elected official who serves a four-year term and is responsible for the administration of the Treasurer’s Office.
Functions of the Office
The principal functions of the office are to:
- Conduct Principal Residence Exemption (PRE) audits for Berrien County and Van Buren County
- Receive, maintain custody of, and disburse all County monies
- Maintain records of receipts and disbursements of monies from all County departments
- Collect and distribute all County governmental units’ delinquent property taxes
- Manage the investment of monies of the County
- Prepare and manage the County delinquent tax revision process
- Sell dog licenses and park passes
- Process FOIA requests

In April 2020, she was appointed Treasurer after serving as Chief Deputy Treasurer for 10 years. Shelly has gained knowledge and experience from governmental operations, the tax collection process, and the financial functions of the county and local municipalities.
